2024 YOUTH GRANTMAKERS SUMMER LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

We're excited to share the first look at our youth conference learning lineup! In addition to our opening sessions, each conference attendee will select three breakout sessions they would like to attend once on-site at the conference. If you have multiple participants you may want to ensure they are attending a mix of sessions to expand learning opportunities for your YAC. We look forward to seeing you in June!

Conference Connections

All youth conference attendees will start their conference experience with a YAC Connect session. Session leaders will review the conference agenda, discuss the history and best practices of the Michigan Community Foundations’ Youth Project and YACs and support conference attendees in networking and connection activities.  

Sessions will be assigned to ensure first-time attendees engage with content that will help ground their experience while those who are past attendees and/ or leaders on their YAC have an opportunity to engage in deeper content.

Addressing Inequity Through Inclusive Grantmaking
Together, we will explore how inequities are showing up in our communities and invite all to engage incourageous conversations about privilege and oppression. We will discuss how inequities can affect the grants we fund and what we can do to help address inequities through proactive and inclusive grantmaking.

Leadership Kaleidoscope: Exploring Diverse Styles
In this interactive session, explore what kind of leader you are, discuss the countless ways you can be or have been a leader in your YAC and challenge yourself to try a leadership style you might be lessfamiliar with. We hope you leave this breakout session with increased confidence to lead now and in the future!

Upgrade Your Ship: Effective Recruitment & Mentorship Strategies
We will share tools and strategies to equip you in your recruitment efforts including identifying target schools and in-person recruitment initiatives. Learn about successful partnerships and mentorship models in YACs and how they help in skill-building, networking and cultivating a supportive community within your YAC.

Civic Engagement
Civic engagement is about working to make a difference in your community. Join this conversation to learn about all of the ways you can be an engaged citizen! We will discuss how to prepare to vote, how you can ensure your voice is heard and much more.

Finding Your North Star
What motivates one to engage in philanthropy? Together we will explore how your interests and hobbies may intersect with philanthropy and how you can ensure your engagement with your YAC is meaningful and aligned with your own North Star.
