Biography

Andrea Judd-Shurmur serves as the director of Learning Services at CMF. In this role, Andrea leads program development and provides technical assistance and research services for our CMF community. Andrea further supports the field through committee participation – she previously served as a tri-chair on the EPIP Michigan Steering Committee and currently serves as a member of the Kansas Association of Community Foundations Conference National Advisory Council. In 2020, she was honored with Delta Zeta Sorority National 35 under 35 award. Prior to joining the CMF staff in 2014, Andrea served as a research associate at Wayne State University where she supported national research and program development. She holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science, both from Wayne State University.

Describe what you do in your role.

In my role, I lead the development and implementation of CMF’s Learning Service programs and other member services. This means I spend my days bringing our community together, researching new ways to meet their education needs, testing ideas to support collaboration and identifying new trends and resources for the field. 

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I am always learning something new about the amazing work of Michigan philanthropy – it is such a joy to work with impact-driven organizations every day.    

What are the causes you’re most passionate about? 

Supporting emerging leaders and building inclusive, equitable communities across Michigan. 

What inspires, challenges or motivates you? 

I am inspired (and challenged) by individuals who think outside the box. We have so many inspiring leaders in our community who ask thoughtful questions and bring new ideas to the table. 

What do you love about Michigan? 

There are so many great places to explore, new foods (and drinks!) to try and kind people to meet.
