Bloomberg recently announced the launch of its 2019 Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which highlighted 230 companies around the globe that are committed to transparency in gender reporting and advancing women’s equality in the workplace.

Five CMF members are recognized in the GEI, including: Ford Motor Company, General Motors, JP Morgan Chase, Northern Trust and PNC Financial Services Group.

Bloomberg shares that GEI companies are leaders among publicly-listed firms in their willingness to report and the success of their inclusion initiatives.

Currently, only 10 percent of eligible companies are disclosing their workplace gender policies and practices.

Data shows that among the GEI listed companies:

  • Women had a 40 percent increase in executive level positions between fiscal years 2014-2017.

  • 60 percent conduct compensation reviews to identify gender-based variations in pay to close their average 20 percent pay gap.

  • 34 percent have programs in place to recruit women looking to return to work after a career break.

  • The average number of weeks of fully paid primary caregiver leave offered is 13 weeks (in the U.S.) and the average number of weeks of fully paid secondary caregiver leave offered is 5 weeks.

  • 68 percent evaluate all advertising and marketing content for gender biases prior to publication.

“Promoting gender equality in the workplace is not just the right thing to do. It is also smart business,” Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg wrote.
